Marines, Friends, and Family of Charlie Battery

The time between the Battery’s re-deployment from Afghanistan till now has seen many changes and some well deserved time off. All Marines and Sailors were home on Marine Corps Base Hawaii in time for Thanksgiving Day which was a very welcomed surprise. Following a four day weekend the Battery returned to its old office but the Marines had moved into a new barrack with updated interiors and more room. After roughly two weeks of post deployment training and administrative requirements the Battalion took nearly the entire month of December off, affording Marines and Sailors the long overdue opportunity to spend quality time with friends and family or to enjoy this beautiful state.

Since returning from leave the Marines and Sailors have certainly been forced back into the grind of “normal” life. The Battery has supported (3) Sergeants attending Sergeants course, (15) Corporals attending Corporals Course and (1) Staff Sergeant attending Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Career Course, setting all of these Marines on a road to continued future success. With so much leadership gone junior Marines have been stepping in to ensure that the Battery did not miss a step. The Battery has assumed all of its equipment and started to make preparations for the next major event, training at the Pohakuloa Training Area on the Big Island, in March.

The period after a deployment is always a dynamic time period. The unit must transition from a fighting, war stance, to a fighting, training, force-in- readiness stance. This is never an easy task however it is always made more difficult with personnel changes that inevitably follow a deployment. Charlie Battery is no different as we have to say good bye to several key members of the Battery. SSgt Hakim, SSgt Boughton, SSgt Castaneda, and SSgt Potting are all executing orders to expand their careers and to continue to do great things for the Marine Corps. GySgt Moore was moved to assist Headquarters Battery and serve as the senior 0811 Gunnery Sergeant in the Battalion. 1stLt Halibey also moved within the Battalion, moving to the Battalion Liaison Shop where he will continue his professional development and maturity. Finally the Battery had to part ways with the Executive Officer, 1stLt Hudson, who was promoted to Captain on February 1st and forced out of the Executive Officer’s billet. He has moved to the Battalion Operations shop where he will continue to do great work and assist the Battalion until he executes orders this summer. With so much of the leadership moving it is comforting to know that 1stSgt Torrez remains as the Battery First Sergeant; providing sage guidance and direction.

The future promises to bring continued changes, adversity, and the opportunity for new Marines and Sailors to excel. As we transition back to a “normal” routine and utilize new tools, like eMarine, I look forward to sharing your Marines and Sailors stories and more.
