Aloha Family and Friends of Headquarters Battery,

For those that I have not met, my name is Captain John McNulty and have come to Hawaii with my wife. We just recently became a part of the 1/12 family, arriving in early December just as many of the Marines and Sailors were headed out the door for post-deployment leave. Upon their return and with a new year, as of 13 January, I have been given the duty and honor of being the HQ Battery Commander. This is a task I take very seriously as I am charged with the welfare and training of all of your loved ones. The Battery, since that time, has worked on coming back together as a sound unit, “One Team, One Fight” is our mantra, and one aspect I have communicated to all is that families are an important part of both individual and overall mission accomplishment of the Battery. I have a responsibility to do everything in my power to ensure that all of you are informed of upcoming events, training exercises, and deployments. As such I will make certain your Marines and Sailors have all information I have to give to you along with these monthly updates.

February has started and we are in full drive for preparation with upcoming training at PTA on the big island. The preparation will be going all month in order for us to be ready to train from the beginning of March to the beginning of April. The point of the training is to get back to the basics of artillery and with this there is much to be done across the whole Battery as your Marines and Sailors are responsible for making sure the Battalion can accomplish its training goals. With this in mind there may be some late nights and I thank you up front for your understanding and dedication to your Marine or Sailor. We also have our “bringing together of the warriors” event on February 11th in Waikiki which will give us all a chance to celebrate together.

This month there were several promotions along with awards given out to Marines and Sailors for their efforts in the past deployment. If you see any of these newly promoted individuals or award recipients please offer your congratulations and well wishes.

I look forward to the time with all of you in and affiliated with Headquarters Battery. Please feel free to introduce yourself to me if you see me on base or out in town. Have a good month.

Semper Fidelis,

Captain John McNulty
Headquarters Battery Commander
1stSgt Edward Heyward
Headquarters Battery First Sergeant

One Team, One Fight
