The Family Readiness Officer manages, coordinates and promotes all matters pertaining to family readiness. The FRO serves as a both a communication and outreach connection between the Commanding Officer and unit's families.

What is Family Readiness?

CO’s letter on Family Readiness

Family Readiness is the ability of the individual Marine and their family to successfully balance life, career and mission events.


A ready Marine and family:

  • Are prepared for family separations and life events

  • Understand the additional responsibilities that will fall on the family when the Marine departs

  • Are knowledgeable of and able to utilize information about benefits, entitlements, programs, and services provided through the Department of Defense, the Marine Corps, and the community

  • Are knowledgeable of command structure and resources available to assist and contribute to personal and family readiness goals

Q: Who is responsible for Family Readiness?
A: We all are.

Family readiness is the responsibility of the individual Marine. Unit Family Readiness is critical to Commanders. Family Readiness is essential in building and maintaining strong Corps families.
